Advantages Of Being An Older Mom

Posted by – June 11, 2012

Maturity plays a vital part in becoming a mother. Emotional, mental and physical preparations are necessary in assuming the challenging role in motherhood. Some people would also suggest that age is also an important factor especially in conceiving a child. Although no one has prescribed yet a certain age for motherly roles, some medical experts would say that a woman must be at least 27 years of age or higher even higher than that.

Early pregnancy is not a rare case these days. People find it rather acceptable whenever they see young ladies with a baby in arms or walking side by side with a child on the streets or in malls. Yet, for some women who got pregnant let’s say at the age of 16, regret is still the recurring feeling every time she makes a rewind of her life. She would probably think of the days when she is supposed to be in school attending classes rather than nursing with her child or enjoying night parties and social gatherings instead of staying up late changing baby’s diapers.  Truly, time shortens and opportunity narrows shortens when one becomes a mother. Priorities and outlook change as responsibilities become numerous. And so, if being a young mother has bittersweet consequences, does that mean that being an older mom is more advantageous?

There are many advantages of being an older mom. For example, if a woman decided to marry by the time she reaches the age of 30, a stable job or successful career is already expected of her. This does not mean that being financially stable is now a measure of one’s capability to parenthood. It only suggests that this aspect cannot be ignored since raising a child can be very expensive. Thus, when a mother has sufficient funds or savings, she has something to incur in times when her child is physically ill or any sort of emergency. Another advantage for older moms is that they already possess the qualities of a mature adult such as sense of responsibility, patience, and being decisive when face with important choices. So it follows then that a mature mom is more patient in disciplining a child and would always hold herself accountable for every action or wrong doing her child commits. An older mom is usually an example of good conduct and morals towards her children since she have grown wiser over the years of good and bad experiences.
